Rovaniemi

The capital of Finnish Lapland, sat right on the Arctic Circle and rebuilt after the war to an Alvar Aalto street plan shaped, from above, like a reindeer's antlers. Santa's official village on the Circle line, reindeer and husky sleighs through the snow, snowmobiles over frozen rivers, and long dark nights spent waiting on the northern lights. Cold, and worth it.
